hello all,
I ran into Daniel Stark today and he mentioned that he has quite a lot of pottery at his house from the last drop in day he hosted. If your child made pottery that day he would appreciate it if you would come pick it up from him. His studio is getting kinda crowded.

Waldorf School Update
Edit: puppet show at Cedarbridge School is Jan 19 at 1:30 NOT 2 as originally stated. Also, the same puppet show is being offered at the Vernon Public Library on January 22 at 3pm, tickets available through the library (show is free but you need tickets).
This from Jen de Bourcier, regarding the Cedar Bridge Waldorf School near Lavington:
We have our occupancy permit from NORD!!! This is the big permit that has been holding us up. So, it is full steam ahead. We are taking applications for enrolement for preschool and kindergarten. The options are two days a week either Mon. & Tues. mornings, Wed. & Thurs. mornings or all four mornings a week for preschool. Kindergarten is four mornings a week. There is also after school care available until 3 pm. People can contact Emily @ 250 547-9351 for more information.
With Waldorf, there are certain commitments expected from the parents. The biggest one is that there is the expectation that the children will not be exposed to media especially tv. The other is that parent involvement is required for the sake of the child and also for optimal running of the school. Don't let this scare you, it is a wonderful community but this is an underlying theme.
There is going to be a puppet show performance at our school on Monday, January 19th at 2:00. It is open to the public and admission is by donation. The puppet shows are very magical. I thought this may appeal to some of the homeschooling families out there.
Also, our community is going to be holding monthly coffee houses to raise money for the school. The first one is on Friday Jan. 23rd at the school. I'm pretty sure it starts at 6:00 p.m.. There will be a light, healthy supper and goodies available for purchase. Children are welcome and parents are asked to please see that everyone maintains awareness and respect for performers. There will be a supervised playspace available. We are also looking for people who might be interested in performing. Any artform is welcome and must be in keeping with family friendly content. People can contact Rubeena Sandhu, our fundraising director, if they would like to participate. Her # is 250-260-6098.
One other thing that is being talked about is the possibility of a private waldorf grade one class next year. This would be a group of parents communally hiring a grade one Waldorf teacher to teach their children for 3 hrs. 5 days a week (mornings). This would consist of waldorf main lesson and different art forms. We have a teacher interested in coming here to work with us. We are putting out there to see if other families may be interested in this option. Kind of a half-way between homeschooling and school. This is not under the umbrella of Cedar Bridge School officially but we would be able to participate in festivals etc..
Please forward this to anyone who may be interested in any or all of these developments. 2009 is going to be a very exciting year!

Art classes with Shannon
Hi, Cara asked me to post this for Shannon Marsh, who teaches creative classes for kids after schools. My kids have done some classes with her and had a great time (Cara's kids too). They did a drama class and ended up performing at a Senior Citizen home and loved that, and Liam did an art class with her (his first ever) and he really enjoyed it. Shannon is really down to earth and has really creative ideas. Each class is 5 sessions, 2 hrs each.
I can't post in the documents here so I'll give a brief outline and if you want to know more you can email me at mrichoux@telus.net:
Bead Works Tues, Jan 13- Feb 10 at BX school 3 to 5 pm cost $80
Culinary Arts Thurs Jan 15 to Feb 12 at Ellison, 3 to 5 pm, cost $90
Drama "A Touch of Madness" Wed, Jan 14 to Feb 11, 3 to 5 pm, cost $90
There is one more class at Beirsto but I can't read the document so will add that later.

Skating on the Lake
Edited to add:After talking to Kathy, we will be skating on the lagoon behind her house. See you there.
Rhiannon and I went down to Kal Beach today and she had a blast skating on the lake. We are planning on going tomorrow afternoon if anyone would like to join us. We will head down after lunch - around 1 or 1:30 and stay for an hour or so. Be great to see some of you!
