Me again looking for food sources contacts.... I'm wondering about where to buy grains? When I was driving in North Armstrong I saw a Grain Co-op? and was wondering about that? Also any tips on where to buy beef (free-range, grassfed...) I've got Vale Farms brochures but they are pricey... Thanks for the tips on chickens....
Cheers,
Delia

I know that Urse over at Quail Run farms grows rye, winter wheat and spelt (all organic). He grinds the first 2 himself I think. He sells at some of the farmer's markets in season - but you could try him at home for those grains. His spelt is sent somewhere else to be ground and the spelt he gets back isn't necessarily from his property. I don't have his phone number but his eggs are often at Nature's Fare and his phone number is on the egg carton. For beef in this area - I'm at a stand-still too. Over at Griller's meats, on mainstreet (30th), they have a pretty good deal - the beef is from Alberta and if you get a side it's $2.79 per lb - that's the best deal I've been able to find. I'm not sure if it was ever at the feedlot though - the girl was vague about that. That's a big issue for me so I would want to know. I have ordered some bison from a local guy this year and it's coming out to $3/lb after the cut and wrap. It's free-range grassland bison but I don't know if he's accepting any more orders at all - I can ask if you want. I don't know anything about a grain co-op. Lots of us order from Anita's Mills in Chilliwack because they only grind organic grains.

That is where I've been buying my grain for the last several years is Anita's Grain Mill in Chilliwack. How do you buy the grain up here? I've bought rye bread from Quail Farm at the Farmers Market and tried to find his address on Irish Creek Road but couldn't. Good to know he grows grain. There are lots of beef farms in the area I'm surprised it isn't easier to buy the beef? Bison I like as well...
